Love Lost
By: Arlene Boychuk@1998

It's funny how much love can make or break you,
For in love everything seems surmountable in all that you do,
Because with love we have the feeling that all is well,
The world has been conquered, you surmise, but only time will tell.

You have such high aspirations of how you want to live,
With that person as one, and they also confirm they will give
Their all for your future so love can always be with you
And this relationship will help make those dreams come true.

Then out of the blue the dreaded "Dear John" letter comes your way.
It's so difficult to fathom what you read, although, it does say,
"I wish it could be other, but I'm afraid we must part."
And it tears you up inside and shatters your very heart.

Oh. the distress of losing the love that you wanted so very much
Of just knowing that you are not able to reach out and touch
Them with hugs, kisses or endearing words, today or tomorrow.
As non-stop tears cascade down your cheeks in great sorrow.

How wonderful to never loose at love regardless of the reason.
Since it really doesn't matter when or where or what the season,
For life can be so cruel and unfair to us, when we least expect it,
And its extremely difficult to grasp and so very hard to accept it.

You think "Can I go on and see others who are so happy and caring?"
Will I ever be able to live with all this pain and not be sharing
The love I so wanted to give that special someone who has my heart,
Who promised that "I will never hurt you and we will never part?"

"Will I again be able to lift my head and see the sunshine in the sky,
Or hear the love songs without tears and wondering "Why?"
You read that other factors had forced the decision that was made
For it was not malice of forethought when that foundation was laid.

You try to console yourself understanding this is as it should be
But it's incredibly hard to believe it is happening to "me".
Take solace in the fact that you are not the only one to despair,
Know that your lost love also has a broken heart to bear.

The wonderful memories of that special love will forever be the same
Although your heart invariably aches at just the sound of their name.
"Time heals all wounds!", so they say, and you hope that is true,
For with each passing day it doesn't seem to get any easier for you.

Life does go on and so must you, so get on your knees and pray
And ask for God's help in coping with this crises so that you may,
Regain your self esteem and be able to be laugh once more
And grow strong enough to reach over and close that door.

Still, you can't help thinking of them, every minute, every hour.
Silently hoping you may get together through some greater power,
Or someone new may take away the hurtful memories and pain
So your broken heart will be mended and love shall be with you again.
